The perfect introduction to Kenya’s wildlife for families and those short on time.

If you have a free morning or afternoon in Nairobi and want to see Kenya’s famous animals without committing to a full safari game drive, this combination tour is the ideal solution.

Located right at the main entrance of Nairobi National Park, the Nairobi Safari Walk and the Animal Orphanage offer two distinct, foot-based experiences that guarantee close-up views of wildlife.

  • The Safari Walk: Imagine a high-end, open-air living museum. You walk on raised wooden boardwalks that wind through three major Kenyan ecosystems: wetlands, savannah, and forests. You will look down into spacious, naturalistic enclosures housing lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, rare bongo antelopes, and crocodiles. It is fantastic for photography and understanding habitats.

  • The Animal Orphanage: This is the oldest rehabilitation center in Kenya. It is smaller and feels more like a traditional zoo, serving as a sanctuary for injured or orphaned animals that cannot be returned to the wild. Here you will get very close to lions, cheetahs, hyenas, warthogs, and various monkeys, learning about their rescue stories.

Yuda Lions provides comfortable, private transport and, crucially, a knowledgeable guide to accompany you on the walk, turning it into an educational journey rather than just a stroll.

Highlights

  • Not a Game Drive: It is important to understand that this tour does not enter the wild section of Nairobi National Park in a vehicle. This is a walking tour on boardwalks and paths viewing animals in enclosures.
  • Cashless Venue: The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is cashless. You must have a Visa or Mastercard credit/debit card to pay entry fees at the gate. Cash is not accepted.
  • Footwear: You will be walking for about 2 hours total. Comfortable walking shoes or trainers are highly recommended.
  • Accessibility: The Safari Walk boardwalks are generally stroller and wheelchair accessible, though some gradients are steep. The Orphanage grounds are a bit rougher but manageable.
